Our Backyard - young trees

Just outside the door to my writing shed (caught between a ramshackle wooden stand, a large black plastic drum and the exterior wall of our aluminium toolshed), trees are springing up. Young trees. The tallest is a taupata, barely 20 cm tall. That's the one I noticed a few weeks back.

But today - Ascension Sunday - I spotted two smaller kowhai, a ngaio - speckled white on green, and two more taupata, all in the area of a half square metre. At least, I think two of the new ones are taupata. One is so young I can't be sure, and the other has very crinkly leaves, perhaps on account of growing so close to the edge of the alumunium toolshed, and getting less rain.

I've pulled back some of the weeds, to give the trees more space, and visibility.
Yesterday, we found kowhai and taupata in the vege patch - we transplanted those.
